I was kind of bummed to realize that the http://packrati.us/ service closed its doors. I was using it to have any links in my tweets bookmarked to my Diigo account.
At home I’ve been wrestling with what to do for computer backups now that my CrashPlan service is coming to a close (they are phasing out their consumer plan).
Here’s an interesting article I found about how Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder, runs a meeting. Check it out to learn about his two-pizza rule, about how he doesn’t use PowerPoint presentations, and why his meetings start in silence.

I’m registered to take an AQ course in “Teach And Learn E-Learning” starting soon. I’ve registered to take it to hopefully learn some best practices for teaching online classes, which I’m sure will also help me with my face-to-face classes.
I loved programming in Delphi many years ago and still subscribe to a “Delphi for Fun” newsletter. It was in one of these newsletters that I read about the “Telephone Words” challenge where you have to find the words in a dictionary that would correspond to the presses of the keys on a telephone. This is a story of a full-time nanny/part-time street photographer in Chicago named Vivian Maier. Vivian sadly passed away in April of 2009, with her photographic work totally unknown to the world. It took a local real estate agent named John Maloof to uncover her amazing talent after purchasing her negatives at an auction. He hadn’t heard of Vivian, and only bought the negatives in a search for some content for a book he was writing. It was when he was scanning the negatives that he realized what he had. Last week I visited an exhibition of Vivian Maier’s photography at the Chicago Cultural Center. I had learned about Vivian Maier earlier through the Kickstarter website and blogged about it here.
To say I was impressed with the exhibit is an understatement. The whole story about her work being discovered and shared with the world is incredibly fascinating and inspirational, so much so, that I decided to visit Chicago to see her pictures in person.Continue reading “Vivian Maier Slideshow”
